Christmas Again!!

So the postman got it all figured out, did his job, and did not have to recieve the wrath of a few angry peace corps volunteers, there were things for myself and my two other postmates. I recieved 3 bubble envelopes, one from belmont, one from Aunt Monique and another from Aunt Pat. Thanks so much guys for all the goodies, swiss miss hot chocolate! headband! and 365 days of duct tape! Some other things I recieved were a packet of spam, freeze dried astronaut ice cream bar, and a toy mouse. I assume the mouse is because the snake that I metioned in an earlier post wasnt a shipable item. The mouse looks pretty real, Im not sure but this may or maynot have been hidden in a present for mom this christmas. Thanks so much for all the cool stuff guys. They all arrived on the same day one postmarked late November, the earliest postmarked around the 23 of December I believe.
There is another story that goes along with these packages, my Peace Corps supervisor from Cotonou was visiting me on Monday. So I did my best to tidy up my house and even though I dont have a bookshelf stack things neatly and sweep, my cleaning girl had more work than normal, my house and kitchen areas are completely spotless, I thought that it was a possibly he would see my kitchen, even if remote. So I cleaned it just in case. I get a call from him that hes going to be a little late, I run down to the post office to get packages. I bring home my three bubble envelopes of goodies and I say to myself, ok I will be good and only open one. I poke the outside and shake them and find the one that feels and sounds the most interesting. I then proceed to open it, I find magazines, and food, and a mouse, and basically a treasure trove of awesome. I then was on a role and couldnt help myself and opened the other two packages, I have no will power when it comes to that sort of thing. So I open them all up and take everything out and I get to the end of everything and I realize that I have made a HUGE mess of my house just before my supervisor is coming to visit I just begin to realize how bad of an idea that this was and the I get a knock on my door. Its my supervisor. So my house wasnt as clean as I would have liked but he understood. He also got a chocolate out of the deal, it worked out for him too.
There was a little party for the inagueration of Obama at the house of a friend of ours who has satalite TV. We provided chilli corn bread and brownies, along with a radio to listen in english. We were hoping that they would have subtitles instead of dubing but no, definately was dubbed, poorly too I might add. We turned the volume off and listened via radio, but watched the TV to get the full effect. Whoever missed the inaugeration has zero excuse as it was broadcasted on youtube, and I was able to catch it in west africa. Obama gave a good speech and the image of the amount of people who showed up to watch in washington was amazing. Looked cold everyone was wearing hats and gloves. oh by the way if someone can find me something a pin, bag, shirt anything that has obamas face on it that says obama rama i think i might be able to die happy.

Whew!!!
I'm glad the postman did the needful and got you three your Christmas gifts. It could have gotten ugly if you and Jess and Carly all busted open a can of whoop ass on him (and I'm sure that would have happened.....don't stand between a PCV and a Christmas package). I can't wait to find out what trickled through for Carly.
I wouldn't regard your house as untidy, just FESTIVE with PRESENTS!!!
We're getting plenty of Obama love here.....so glad and so cool that you can share in it. At one of the inaugural balls last night (the "youth ball" I believe) Obama thanked all of the young people who are serving the country in the Peace Corps....so consider yourself thanked by the PRESIDENT!!! Pretty sweet.
Best, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)

Glad that you were able to celebrate the New Day/Age beginning in the USA yesterday. I felt like it was such a holiday.
I am also glad that you all got the packages from the post office, we talked to Carly this morning and she was so happy to get all the things we sent. I can't believe she was able to wait until she got home to open them- I am much more like you when it comes to presents and boxes. Plus, I think there were some speakers for her radio in one of them and maybe that would have helped although you queens of resourcefulness figured something else out.
So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year- Judy
