Back in Bassila

Back here for awhile. I did a plan of the next few months just so that I had a clear picture in my head of my activities I have something planned every single month until September. With Peace corps meetings, work and other things i didnt know how much i really was doing. busy busy busy. next few months plans, theres still a girls camp meeting in nati during january, feb safari, march i had written down somewhere that there is another training for EA, april is training for those who want to work the training for incoming volunteers, june is girls camp, july the new peace corps volunteers arrive, thatll be a blast, augest is training which i hope to work, and september is our mid service training. pretty cool huh? so once a month i get to take a breather from post which while i love it here is something that is needed. but now im here for a least a few weeks. hopefully long enough to get some things going.
I had slightly interesting time getting back here from Natitingou though, so apparently the better bus lines dont like it when you take a gas tank with you. i had to change my gas tank and before i went up with an empty gas tank, got my other one from the Natitingou work station, im sure you all remember this drama, and went back on the bus with a full tank of gas nobody asked any questions, but i try to get on the bus this time oh everyone looks at that and says its dangerous its dangerous. and the bus line has a huge problem with it. even though it still has the gas cap on it and i try to explain that its just as dangerous as the gas in the gas tank. if there was a fire on the bus probably there would be equally dangerous parts of the bus as the tank of gas i wanted to put on it. but whatever they wouldnt let me go on the bus with the gas tank, they suggested i still use their bus only put my tank which i payed a weeks worth of food for on a taxi, when i could just take the taxi and not waste my money or risk having my gas tank stolen. i ended up finding another bus line and having to sit with the gas tank infront of me between my legs and i was hoping that nobody would sit next to me but guess what the largest beninese man ive seen yet decides that he wants to sit next to the white girl and ask to listen to her Ipod about 10 billion times during the ride. he asked me what i had on it and kept on asking to listen to elton john, i have no elton john on my ipod so this was impossible but he kept on being like youre an american you must have elton john or at least celine dion on your ipod, nope only rock and roll buddy no power ballads pop or rap that is currently playing in Benin, and since you seem not to have heard of my personal faveorites red hot chilli peppers, modest mouse, guster, sublime or the doors, i cant help you. i even offered to let him listen to some american music he hadnt heard before nope only wanted to listen to elton john or celine dion. he effectively has got himself ranked high on the most obnoxious people ive ever met in my entire life list, but maybe thats what he was going for, maybe trying to collect on a bet from his buddies how annoyed could you make the white girl. oh well, im sure hes not the last person ive met here who will end up on that list.

Who knew that large men from Benin have such a thing for Celine Dion and Elton John??? Sounds like the dude needs to head to Vegas.
You and gas tanks are always an adventure. I hope the next purchase and transport will be easier.
Strange to hear you talk about training/greeting the new volunteers!!! You are such a veteran by now!! The time seems to be flying by here.....I wonder how it seems to you.
Take care and stay healthy, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)
