Training for Training

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I had an excellent birthday in Cotonou I went out to thai food, yes thai food you read that correctly. There is a really good thai place within walking distance of the office. So me and a bunch of my friends went there. We all split three types of curry one that was served in a coconut another in a pineapple and the third had beninese cashews. Fun fact cashews ive heard is the largest export product of benin.
The reason why i was down in cotonou was to help plan the next training im going to call it stage from here on. I thought originally that the peace corps vounteer trainers, aka volunteers working stage, were going to cotonou to be introduced to the schedule, possibly make minor adjustments, sign up for the weeks im working, stuff like that. Boy was I wrong. We were planning the next stage. So way more intensive than I anticipated. Doesnt matter I would have definately done it anyway. It was really good to be able to know that our suggestions as volunteers were not only taken into consideration but there was change. My stage wasnt bad I thought it was good but there is always room for improvement. I feel that the next stage will be better. I know that a lot of work has been put into making it the best yet.

I am very glad that you had a good birthday. It probably helped that you were in Cotonou with lots of other folks....more of a celebration that way.
Have fun with planning for stage!!! Hard to believe how quickly the time has passed. Take good care of those newbies when they come!!! Will there be a special session on "foot care"??
Best, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)

I'm jealous that you got to eat Thai food! Brian and I actually make quite a bit of thai food (we have a recipe very yummy seafood, potato curry dish) When you are back in the states and come visit us in Ohio we'll make your Brian's delicious (or deliciousous as Emma says) spring rolls!
