Due to chaleur, aka the hottest time in Benin, Ive taken to sleeping in my living area underneath the ceiling fan, to all you other incoming volunteers my house has been described as a palace, dont think you will all have ceiling fans. This has worked out really well until the rains came back the first few soaking rains are called the mango rains, this has yet to be confirmed but its what a lot of volunteers call them. Yes the rains are coming back, chaleur is coming to a close Ive made it past the worst weather Benin has to offer. Yes thats right Im a badass and lived through 110 degree heat with no air conditioning or pool. And I still biked around and built mudstoves and spent time in overcrowded taxis. I consider this an accomplishment. Back the original story, I was sleeping under the ceiling fan and it began to rain, I love watching the rain come in the storms are awesome here full of thunder and lightening just beautiful. Then it begins to rain and it starts raining in my open window, now while its cool outside its not cool in my house yet, so Im forced to do something I havent had to do since probably November, close my window. Then it got deathly hot in my living area and there was no getting away from it I sweat so much I had to get up and drink more water just to continue sweating 3 times. Also with the rains its humid. I decided that I would finally break down and buy a standing fan for my bedroom where I can leave the window open all the time because of the way the roof is situated. I refused to spend another night like that so yestardary morning I went down to the nigerian fan man and bought a fan. Last night I slept for the first time in a few months in my bedroom with a fan planted directly in front of me blowing the cool night air in while I slept. I havent slept so well in a long time. It was pretty amazing I must admit.

Thank GOD you got a fan.
Even bad asses need fans during chaleur.
Thanks for the status updates....your loyal readers appreciate it!!
Stay healthy and strong, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)
I can't even imagine 110 degrees with no air conditioning and no pool... it was bad enough when I was 9.5 months pregnant and it was 112 degrees here, and I was hot and miserable even with the air conditioning. I find it very interesting how your hot season is followed by a wet season. We get that here too, they call it the monsoons (brian and I laughed the first few times we heard it called that!) Glad to hear the toe doesn't itch soo bad!
Glad to hear that some relief is coming in terms of the heat and that you have a fan you can move to where you need it.
