7am

Its a glorious 7am in the morning! The sun is rising and the birds are singing! Thats right 7 months down, working on 8. I've been traveling around a lot lately, at the moment Im in Natitingou for a meeting. Busy Busy Busy. I've spent more days away from post than actually at post last month. I barely got back to Bassila and then left again. But its ok everytime Ive left there has been some sort of purpose. But I should be back in a few days.
What to post... um.... Oh yes Mangos. Absolutely delicious. A huge mango is 100 francs, which is normally a pile of yam pilea and sauce, but it is totally worth it. Ive eaten a few mangos where the juice runs down my chin and arms. Mangos are definately an outdoor food, and should probably be consumed within range of a sink, while its fun to not wash yourself after eating the juicy explosion and sit in a hot taxi not only sweating profusly but now sticky and gross in close proximity to other sticky gross sweating people, I prefer to avoid this. Mangos are currently everywhere. Best season in Benin hands down, it even beats the harmattan. There are about 10 or so mango trees outside of the library just loaded with mangos, a mango tree is like an apple tree on steriods. The canopy is huge, blocking out all light, and it big enough for numerous people to sit under and take a break, to top it all off the thing is loaded with mangos!!! Its like a little pat on the back for making it through chaleur, lots and lots of mangos. Be jelous.
Toe Status: Looks nasty but hopefully thats just the nail coming off, it doesnt hurt or itch!
Cat Status: She needs to have those kittens already.

Today Judy and I took a long hike in Hawaii (vacation for our 30th anniversary, thankyaverymuch) and we saw MANGO trees!!!! And now I'm reading your blog. Coincidence?? Yeah, probably....
Sounds like your cat needs to be like a mango and have a juicy explosion. OK, that was gross. My apologies.
Sending good vibes to your toe, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)
