So this one time when I was back in the states I stubbed my toe. When I mean back in the states I mean before I left for Benin. Then during the first few days of training it got infected. Ive since lost the nail and its the process of growing back. But during that time it has been infected on and off the nail bed is exposed and basically Benin has taken up residence in the nail bed now and doesnt want to leave. Ive been givin some stronger antibiotic cream to put on, but that only makes it better for a little while. Now Ive been given alochol swabs and told to continue to use the cream. Frankly its still infected. Reason why Ive waited 8 months to deal with this (other than the fact Im stupid) I dont trust the doctors in Bassila, if you all remember the freckle rash back in October, so instead my other option is to come down to Cotonou. And Cotonou is not my faveorite place although there are advantages (american food and the new PC office is NEXT DOOR to an excellent thai restaraunt.) if I need to go to a city I can go to Natitingou. It has taken upwards of 11 hours to get down to Cotonou, I havent been down again since October, and my toe hasnt been bad enough for me to warent taking the long trip. But now since Im here I went in. Get it fixed, get it delt with. No more toe issues I want it gone BEFORE July. This shouldnt be an issue.
So I go into the doctors they poke it tell me to put the cream in the med kit on it, I tell them I have, Oh ok so put some of this other stuff on it, I tell them they already gave me some and I have, Then I can tell the doctor has a confused look. I explain that this is something that started 8 months ago. Oh ok you should see a specialist, but the specialist cant see you until Friday. It was at the time Tuesday and I wanted to leave Wednesday. Its obnoxious. But I hope it gets cleared up. and I hope that Oose hasnt had her kitten yet. Ill keep you all updated on the status of my toe. Current status: still infected.

i finally decided to leave a note for you but I keep up with your blog on almost a daily basis.
sad day about your toe. and the duck...
so yesterday i was exploring ( aka crossed the street to the shops) and i found this AWESOME world store that had all these really cool trinkets and they had (wait for it wait for it...) WOODCHUCK!!! AND rasberry flavored woodchuck (they put it in the imported section!!! that's pretty funny if you ask me) they had all these 'get your own' spices and a really big indian/thai section. and 3 whole isles dedicated to tea. basically i said (out loud at least 3 times) Mel would adore this place! SOOOOOOOO you have to come see it when you're in the states.
i'm trying to get ticket to VT for July 22-28 ish but they're like $350... but no matter what, i'll get there.
LOVE SARAH
Stupid toe.
I hope your toe gets healed up very quickly.
It sounds very painful and very annoying.
I'm SURE it's quite easy to keep your toe clean and dry there in Benin.....................NOT!!!
Stay strong and healthy, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)
