The king left his house on Saturday
so saturday i had an interesting day. it was market day in manigri so i went over that way and had lunch before going on to the market. manigri is a smaller village and i wanted to see what its market was like, bassilas market is bigger but im not too sure if it actually has more stuff maybe after closer inspection of each market will i be able to tell. so my two other postmates and myself went to the market and we notice that there was something going on with the king of manigri that day as there were banners and lots of people milling about and there seemed to be a few unusual things in manigri like horses. first horses ive seen in country were yestarday. anyway after lunch of excellent alfredo, thank you postmate, we took our bikes to the market, the fete, celebration, was happening next to the market and we found out that today was a very big day for the king. hes a new king and as part of the initial being a king you have to stay in your house for a few months then after youre offically the king and can leave. so the king has put in his dues and now he can leave his house. so he did and boy did he ever, lots of stuff was happening, everywhere including women dancing with hats that looked like they had shells attached to them somehow. really interesting, but i didnt know what was happening and it was blisteringly, i think this is my adjective of choice for the amount of heat, hot out. like in mexico but i think it might have been hotter. but anyway so we then visit the market and find many of the same things that you could find in bassila except its less hectic. then after i had to bike home, in the heat, all up hill. its not far only about 8 kilometers but still it took closer to 40 minutes. when i got home i was looking forward to sitting underneath my ceiling fan but figures there is no eletricity, this happens about once a week where the eletricity will flicker for the day and sometimes it wont be on all night and into the afternoon but this is normal and i dont have a refrigerator so it doesnt matter, now think if i had a frig and kept things in it and then the power went out, boy its good that i dont have one of those. of course im kidding i would really like one. but i think i need some others things first like a shelf for food, something for my clothes, and a bookcase. much more important than a frig that may or maynot work due to power cuts. well im out i have to walk home and its starting to get dark.

We spoke with Carly today and it sounded like Managri was JUMPIN'!!!!
Market.......fete for the king leaving his house......lunch Chez Carly, PERHAPS worth the UPHILL bike ride back to Bassila. Carly has mentioned that going from Bassila to Managri is MUCH nicer than the opposite direction on bike.
Here's hoping you have many more surprising fetes over the weeks to come!!!
Best, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)
