Yes that's right, I have read 75 books so far since I joined Peace Corps. I have decided that instead of every 50 books giving a review I thought I'd give a review of every 25. Please enjoy.

The Book that Blew My Mind
Silent Spring
If you are alive you should read this book. This has been traditionally seen as an environmentalist read, but frankly I feel that everyone should read it as the points that Carson makes are valid to everyone's lifestyle. I have significantly cut down on the use of chemicals in my daily life as a result. No more insecticide, or harmful cleaning agents. There are alternatives to chemicals.
Fantasy Series that I enjoyed the most
His Dark Materials
I read the Lord of the Rings, and it was good but frankly I felt that I could better relate to the characters that Pullman created. It seemed more real to me. But the Lord of the Rings are a good story. I'm also really glad that when the movie The Golden Compass came out it didn't do so well as I think that these are best left as books.
Best Depictions of West Africa
Somebody's Heart is Burning
An American woman decided to up and go to Ghana to avoid some stressful things happening in her life. She ended up volunteering and the book is about her time in Africa and the friendships that she makes
A Long Way Gone
This story is a memoir of a boy soldier. This is a first hand account of his time there and the amount of time and effort it took for him to remember what it was like to be human.
Books that made me want to go to England
The Secret Garden
Notes From a Small Island
I don't know why, but I now really want to go to England after reading these books. Something about the way that Bryson describes England entices to me visit.
Enjoy. If I had to choose three I would choose: Silent Spring, A Long Way Gone and The Grapes of Wrath

I LOVE Marley and Me, I have read it at least once a year for the last four years, and every time I end up bawling in bed and Brian asks me what the heck is wrong, then he sees what book I'm reading and rolls over and ignores me (The movie just doesn't do the book justice, but this always happens for me). I read The grapes of wrath for US history and I think that was the only book I actually read all of for that class. I read Fast Food nation for a class in College, I found it quite enlightening to say the least. Emma and I have been going to the library every week, so I'm slowly starting to read more (its still hard when I'm busy with a two year old!) I'll have to see if I can get Somebody's Heart is burning and Silent Spring.
Whoa!!!
You have read a LOT of books!!!
That is ca-ray-zeeee!!!!!
Keep reading, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)
