Girls Camp, through pictures

Here are some pictures of the week long camp for girls that the Donga region volunteers put together! See past posts for more information on this, as this post is pictures! The picture above came about when I was just standing around getting mentally ready for the next activity these two girls come up to me and ask 'can we take a picture with you?'
'Sure' I say
'We dont have a camera'
'How do you want to take a picture with me then?'
'We can use your camera'
so you want to take a picture of me with my camera, but isnt part of the point of taking pictures is so that you have something to show others/ keep for posterity? but instead i say 'Ok that's fine' turns out it was one of my faveorite pictures from my time in Benin.

Here is the activity that I lead, 'Qui suis-je?' translated: 'who am i?' It's an artistic activity in which you take your name and from the letters of your name you find adjectives that describe you so for example, m is for magnificent, e is for entertaining, l is for liberal...

Here are the girls playing the human knot! fun times! Last but not least, is the entire group! It was one of the more rewarding things I've done in Peace Corps. As my postmate Naima described 'This is what Peace Corps should be' I agree. But would I want to plan girls camps for 2 years straight, no way. This camp was a lot of work, but in the end completely worth it. Good job Donga volunteers and thank you all once again for helping making this camp possible. There will most definately be a camp succes 2010!
I'd also like to add that I wish Kate Puzey could have been there. She was one of the driving forces behind getting a regional girls camp going. She was instrumental writing the grant to get the money and had she stayed with us she would have been a big part of the planning. I couldn't help but think during the camp, seeing the girls smiling faces and watching them open up and become a sort of family, how much Kate would have wanted to be there, and how much I wish she could have been. Camp Succes 2009 was dedicated to Kate. Camp was something that mirrored who Kate was, good role model, strong woman, independent, and most of all a friend to everyone.

Hooray for Camp Succes!!!
You all did SUCH a great job.
You would have to be CRAZY to plan this camp for two years straight!!!!!!! (Hehehehehehehe)
In all of your pictures the smile of Kate is mirrored on the campers face's. She would have been SO proud and happy. Her life lessons will live on and on.
Stay healthy and strong, Mark Loehrke (Carly's dad)
